DEAN KARNAZES FACES ONE EXTREME RUNNING CHALLENGE AFTER ANOTHER WITH HELP OF WILEY X® EYEWEAR
3,000-Mile Run Across America, Meeting First Lady Just a Few Highlights From Fast-Paced Year
When it comes to extreme fitness and endurance challenges, Dean Karnazes doesn’t run from anything. When others might slow down, this world famous “Ultramarathon Man” has picked up the pace, literally pounding the pavement from coast to coast to motivate people towards a more active and healthy lifestyle.
Many people are cross-country runners, however, Karnazes took the term literally earlier this year. He embarked on his Run Across America campaign, promoted through the immensely popular Live With Regis and Kelly television show. During his amazing 3,000-mile run — which began in Southern California and ended this May in New York City — Karnazes visited with schools, youth groups and civic leaders across the country to educate Americans about the importance of exercise and play. He even had the opportunity to run through the White House to meet with First Lady Michelle Obama, herself a champion for youth fitness and health education.
“We are very proud to be associated with Dean and to know that we play a role in his amazing accomplishments,” said Wiley X Co-Owner Myles Freeman, Jr. “Whether he’s out on the road, running a backcountry trail or speaking before thousands of kids,
Dean is always a goodwill ambassador for a healthy, active lifestyle — and proof that no challenge is too great to overcome,” added Freeman.
Karnazes’ incredible achievements of fitness and endurance back this up. He has finished a grueling 135-mile ultramarathon through scorching 120-degree heat in Death Valley, California and plowed through snow and negative 40-degree temperatures while completing a marathon to the South Pole. Whether he’s training for an upcoming challenge, competing in a race or running across the country to share his message of fitness, Karnazes meets extreme conditions — and faces them head-on with the help of Wiley X sunglasses.
“The protection and visual clarity my Wiley X glasses provide are very important to me, whether I’m competing or training for my next big challenge,” said Karnazes. “When I’m on the road, I encounter every kind of condition. On the same day, I could run through blowing dust, flying insects and the full spectrum of light from dark and stormy to glaring sunlight. I trust Wiley X to keep my eyes comfortable and my vision sharp, so I can really ‘focus’ on my running,” Karnazes added.
Wiley X is the only premium sunglass manufacturer with stringent ANSI Z87.1-2003 High Mass and High Velocity Impact Test ratings on every pair of glasses it makes. This distinction provides outdoor adventurers and extreme athletes with the confidence to take on any challenge.
The remainder of 2011 will be no less action-packed for Karnazes. Along with numerous speaking engagements around the country, he will compete in North Face Endurance Challenge events September 16-18 in Madison, Wisconsin, October 13-16 in Atlanta, Georgia and December 2-4 in Northern California. He also plans to compete in the Chicago Marathon October 7-9 and the world-renowned New York City marathon November 4-6. Wiley X will be there every step of the way.
