Welcome to Represent, a sporadic series where we only ask celebrities about their random side hustles.
Scott Eastwood, offspring of Clint and inheritor of his strapping glare, is the face of Persol sunglasses' “next generation” (get it?) ad campaign. We talked to him about his job wearing sunglasses professionally.
Have you ever lost a pair on sunglasses that you really loved?
Lost! Where do I start? That should go in my memoir. Every day. I lose sunglasses very easily. It’s a real problem. They nicer ones I’m more likely to lose. The kind you get at a gas station for five bucks, you never lose. If you have a nice pair, then you lose them.
I can’t decide if I want a life of drugstore sunglasses or if I want to keep trying with nice ones.
That’s good. I try to keep them pretty nice; I keep trying.
Do you wear glasses-glasses?
No, my eyes are still in pretty good shape. We’ll see how long that hangs on.

Have you wanted to wear glasses?
Sure, yeah, for a role. For an acting piece, I would love glasses. I would love to play a character that wears glasses. If it’s true to them in that aspect, I would try to find some interesting character attributes.
Have you ever used accessories to help you access the character?
I wouldn’t call them accessories, per se, but I had some cool tattoos for Suicide Squad.
Did you think about getting them?
Sure. When I was younger, I thought about getting a tattoo. I'd say, I’ll see if in five years I want the tattoo. But then I didn’t want that anymore. So I don’t have any. People change.
Are you good at remembering to bring sunglasses with you?
Good at remembering? No. But I have light eyes; I have blue eyes. I squint a lot, I don’t know if I got it from my dad or where that comes from. I’m squinty. I think it’s because I have light eyes.
Do you ever stare at yourself in the reflection in someone else’s sunglasses? I do it; it’s pretty vain.
That is vain! [Laughter] I can’t say that I typically do that.
You’re much better than I am.
[Laughter] I have my vanity moments. I’m not much better than anyone else.
Do you remember the first pair of sunglasses you had?
I do remember my dad wearing Persols. They were classy and nice.
Did you ever borrow his sunglasses?
Did I borrow? I have stolen my fair share of sunglasses from my daddy. If you want to call it borrowing, sure!
How many pairs of sunglasses do you have?
I probably have three to five. I probably need a couple more. I keep a few little weird ones. I keep them in the car, just in case. I don’t like to accumulate too much stuff. I’m not a stuff person. A couple nice clothes, a few pairs of nice shoes in the closet. What else do you need?
“I do remember my dad wearing Persols. They were classy and nice.”
Do you have an opinion about wearing sunglasses indoors?
I don’t like to make a habit of it. I like to look people in the eye.
When you’re meeting someone new, do you take off your sunglasses?
Definitely.
Do you find it harder to have a conversation with people in sunglasses?
It’s a big factor, it cuts into the intimacy of the conversation. You can’t read people… Eyes are the window to the soul, right? You can read people better if you can see their eyes.
You’re flying planes a lot in your Instagram. Is that your favorite hobby?
Hobby?
Oh, I don’t know—how would you define it? Is it an activity? A sport?
Yeah, it is. I’m a helicopter pilot. It’s a passion of mine, ever since I was a kid. I’ve always been interested.
What are the best sunglasses for flying helicopters? You always see pilots with great sunglasses.
Really light! Really light sunglasses, low footprint on your face so it’s not going to get in the way.
