While models graced the runways this past spring to show off designers’ fall and winter collections, the clothes weren’t the only trend-setting items on display. Almost every collection topped it off with sunglasses that embodied the season’s most anticipated trends.
We’ve pulled together some of the hottest trends to try during these cold-weather months — as well as the must-have shades for pulling them off!
1940s Throwback
The ladylike trend is deep-rooted in vintage 1940s inspiration. While pencil skirts and tailored coats were the focal point for clothing, there are bits and pieces of the trend that can be applied to your shades, too. Of course, cat eye shapes are a must, but they can be modernized for 2013 with animal prints like these cat eyes and with embellishments like this rhinestone style. These polka dot sunnies add not only a flirty print, but a cute rosette, too!
Punk’d
Don’t think you can pull off the ’90s grunge look? We have to disagree! Pulling in elements of the punk trend through sunglasses is a simple way to safely show your rough-n-tough side. Look for embellishments such as studs and chains like these shield shades or these studded sunglasses. Bold colors such as neon and red are also good choices, while exotic prints like these bad boys portray the trend, too.
Preppy-Chic
The co-ed trend is perfect for fall! Sunglasses with prints such as plaid, tartan, and argyle are ideal, like these super-chic plaid frames. On the other hand, you had to know that nerd glasses would come into play here, too. These retro glasses are perfect for adding a little co-ed inspiration to your style (or, pretty much any of our clear frames will work). Last but not least, classic oversized styles are a safer option, adding class and sophistication to your too-cool-for-school style.
Menswear Inspired
While the ladylike trend is ultra-feminine, this trend takes on masculine hints with athletic and menswear-inspired touches. Sunglasses with angular lines and futuristic structures — think retro square shape, metal frames, or thick frames — will be the styles to look for. These metal browlines offer a super-sleek feel while these clear cat eyes are feminine, yet have a thick frame and slightly structured, masculine feel. Last but not least, shades with a matte finish (like these) are perfect, too!
