MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct, 2014  Atheer, the company pioneering Augmented Interactive Reality (AiR), combining the power of 3D augmented reality with gesture-based computing interaction announced it has hired Alberto Torres as its CEO. Alberto is a mobility industry veteran, bringing over a decade of experience in consumer and enterprise devices and software solutions. He comes to Atheer from Hewlett-Packard (HP), where he served as Senior Vice President, Mobility, leading the launch of HP’s Android and Windows tablet business and overseeing HP’s overall effort in enterprise mobility. Before that, Alberto ran a number of businesses at Nokia including the innovative MeeGo effort and the accessories group. Alberto led Vertu, the luxury mobile phone company, during its explosive growth and turn to profitability.

“I am thrilled to join Atheer and help build the next chapter of this company. The Atheer team has developed the transformational AiR computing platform and is already engaged with some of the leaders in the development of the Industrial Internet,” said Torres. “I am looking forward to accelerating the deployment of our OS and Smart Glasses platform to unleash productivity in tomorrow’s enterprise workflows, particularly across the industrial, medical and oil & gas sectors.”

“We are excited to have someone of Alberto’s caliber lead Atheer,” said Bobby Yazdani, Chairman of the board for Atheer. “Alberto is a technology and product visionary with a proven track record of world-class execution. With his shared passion for human-computer interaction, he will propel Atheer to capture the extensive market opportunities ahead.”

“Alberto’s experience and personality make him an ideal fit here at Atheer,” said Soulaiman Itani, Founder of Atheer. “As we continue to expand our strategic partnerships and look for new opportunities for our naturally-interactive, gesture-based AR platform, Alberto’s deep expertise in enterprise mobility will help ensure that we deliver the best products possible to end-customers and our software partners.” Itani will remain deeply involved in the company’s day-to-day operations in his new role as Chief Technology Officer.

Prior to HP, Nokia and Vertu, Torres was a partner at McKinsey and Company based mostly in Silicon Valley. Torres holds a Ph.D in computer science from Stanford University and has served on the Board of Directors of Bang & Olufsen and Opera Software.
