Prabal Gurung is a Singapore born New York based fashion designer who has been making waves internationally since 1999. He has worked for many successful companies such as Donna Karen, Cynthia Rowley, and Bill Blass. We are delighted to see him manifest into his own brand and grateful for his inspiring eyewear.
With an education at New Dehli’s National Institute of Fashion Technology and NYC’s Parson’s School of Design, Prabal Gurung has the skill set to design eyewear that is classified as high-end couture. The color blocking alone in these sunglasses, to include tones of red, white, flesh, and bone, is enlivening.
The same frames look extra edgy in matte black. The medium grey lenses keep a cohesion to an otherwise eccentric frame design. The exterior of the rounded lenses is reminiscent of a bamboo plant – perhaps an ode to his parent’s Nepali roots.
The temples of the sunglasses are also filled with surprises as the jetting temple portion projects upward while the ear hooks are subtly thin. The hybrid of a classic base shape and modern augmentations leave us with one beautiful sunglass specimen.
