Spring is the perfect time to ditch your boring black shades and choose a more colourful pair. But what colour shades should you be wearing? Well if anyone knows the hottest hues of the season, its Pantone.
The American company is the authority on colour and their Pantone Matching System is used around the world in fashion, fabrics, interors and more.
Pantone recently revealed their top 10 colours for spring 2016, which they called a “A Transporting and Transformative Canvas”. The colours include the creatively named Peach Echo, Snorkel Blue, Buttercup Yellow and colours of the year, Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue.
So, let’s take a look at our four favourite Pantone colours for spring 2016 and which of our sunglasses match up to these shades:
Pantone 15-1040: Iced Coffee
For a muted spring look, Iced Coffee is a perfect choice. Pantone describes this simple shade as a transitional colour that will take you all the way through spring and summer and well into autumn. Iced Coffee is a great neutral that suits everyone and pairs well with other colours.
If you love this subtle SS16 hue, SelectSpecs have a range of eyewear that will give you the look. For a touch of glamour, the gem-encrusted Bvlgari BV8162B sunglasses are available in an earthy shade of beige that perfectly matches this Pantone colour. The Salvatore Ferragamo SF600S sunglasses are another great choice, with elegant over-sized frames.
For a natural, down to earth touch, look no further than the Arbor FX-20 wooden frames or the classic Maui Jim Aloha Friday wayfarers in a chocolate-coloured faded effect. These coffee-coloured shades are ideal for everyday wear and make a lighter alternative to dark brown glasses.
Pantone 13-1520: Rose Quartz
For a pretty floral vibe, take your spring eyewear inspiration from Pantone’s Rose Quartz. This rosy hue was actually named as Colour of the Year and is setting trends when it comes to spring fashion. The colour is vibrant but not too bright and has a calm and soothing nature that’s perfect for sunny days. According to Pantone, “Rose Quartz reminds us to reflect on our surroundings during the busy but lighthearted spring and summer months.”
Pink shades will add a fun and feminine touch to every outfit. If you want to add a rose-tinted hue to your look this season, check out the iconic Ray Ban RB3025 aviator shades and the SS Collection 9939 which both feature rosy pink lenses. The Dior Mirrored sunglasses are one of the most popular styles of the season, and are available in a beautiful rose pink and violet colourway. To add a touch of Rose Quartz to your summer wardrobe on a budget, the Savannah 8121 is a perfect choice.
Pantone 13-4810: Limpet Shell
Limpet Shell will have you dreaming of exotic beach destinations and summer holidays, so its no surprise that Pantone chose it as one of their top 10 shades of the season. This bright and beautiful hue is described as a shade of aqua that leans toward the green family.
Blue eyewear is a perfect choice for spring and summer; it’s fresh, eye-catching and it looks great on everyone. If you want to get a cool blue look this spring, we have a great choice of shades inspired by Limpet Shell. First up, the ever-popular Miu Miu 13NS round-framed sunglasses are available in a gorgeous gradient-effect turquoise blue that will brighten up your eyewear look. The Robert Cavalli RC976S aviator shades and the Just Cavalli JC722S sunglasses both feature bold blue lenses that will look great with a tan on the beach. And for an affordable take on the trend, our best-selling Savannah S8122 is available in a lovely shade of light blue.
Pantone 12-0752: Buttercup
Nothing says spring like sunny yellow. For SS16, Pantone have chosen a vivid shade of yellow called Buttercup which adds a contrasting dose of vibrancy to the serene palatte. Inspired by spring flowers and sunshine, Buttercup will transport the wearer to a happy place.
Spring and summer is the ideal time to break out the yellow sunglasses and brighten up your wardrobe. Whether you’re heading to the beach or to a festival, they’re an eye-catching and unusual choice.
Yellow sunglasses can be hard to find, but SelectSpecs have some stylish pairs to pick from. For a sunshine-inspired look, we love the Ray Ban RB3025JM aviator shades with their bright yellow photochromatic lenses. If wayfarers are your thing, choose from the budget-friendly Savannah 8121 shades or the Polaroid PLD6002/S which both feature sunny Buttercup yellow frames. Last but not least, the Miu Miu MU10NS are finished in a dark yellow glittery finish for a more sophisticated take on the trend.
