At Salone del Mobile 2016 in Milan (April 12-16), Safilo, the historical leader in the optical frames and homonymous brand of Safilo Group, is proud to announce an exclusive eyewear collection created by the renowned designer Marcel Wanders.
Marcel Wanders’ distinctive Safilo frames will be on display at the Safilo Showroom in Milano, at Via Manzoni 38.
This special project evidences the importance and the enduring strong values of Safilo’s very own brand: highest levels of quality and technical innovation, comfort, reliability and durability, with premium design.
The collection combines meticulously detailed high-tech production, technological innovation and an elegant and humanistic design aesthetic that is sure to surprise. “I want to make you wonder and bring a little excitement to your day”. – says Marcel Wanders.

This smart eyewear is designed for both men and women to enjoy. A choice of three sunglasses and six versions of optical glasses in different colour schemes ensures that the user can fully express his/her own style. The exceptionally comfortable and lightweight metal frames are available in a variation of colours, including royal blue, clover green, merlot red, midnight black and amethyst purple. These tones wonderfully contrast with the patterned engraved metal (in golden, champagne, gun or chrome) on the inside of the frame.
Intricate and beautiful artwork organically spreads throughout the inside of the frame. For women’s eyewear Marcel Wanders has developed special floral and feminine engravings, while the unisex models have a more geometric and cosmopolitan design. These inscriptions act as a hidden and secretive reflection of one’s most beautiful self.
The collection will be released in Spring 2016.

About Marcel Wanders
Marcel Wanders (Boxtel, Netherlands, 1963) is a prolific product and interior designer and art director, with over 1700+ projects to his name for private clients and premium brands such as Alessi, Bisazza, Kosé Corporation/Cosme Decorte, KLM, Flos, Swarovski, Puma, among scores of others. In 2001 Marcel Wanders co-founded the successful design label Moooi, of which he is also Art Director.
Regarded by many as an anomaly in the design world, Marcel Wanders has made it his mission to “create an environment of love, live with passion and make our most exciting dreams come true”. His work excites, provokes, and polarises, but never fails to surprise for its ingenuity, daring and singular quest to uplift the human spirit, and entertain.
Marcel Wanders’ chief concern is bringing the human touch back to design, ushering in what he calls design’s ‘new age’; in which designer, craftsperson and user are reunited.
