I know that Spring is just around the corner. But with London Fashion Week just gone, it’s too exciting not to think ahead of what to expect in AW16. Besides, fashionistas like you need to get the inside track so you can make a head start, right?
If you’re all caught up on spring style and you have the specs to see you through the summer season, then fast forward with me to Autumn/Winter 2016 and let’s look at what’s coming next.
I’ve just returned from LFW and I can’t wait to share my fashionable findings:
1. Velvet + Dark, Mysterious Colours

A key look this Autumn/Winter is a darker take on previous ‘gothic’ and ‘gothic romance’ trends. Inspired by Dystopia, the new look for AW16 is much more sinister. Think malevolent glam, menacing 80s vibes, dark and merciless colours; the trend is both fierce and feminine at the same time.
Catwalks were awash with plenty of textures including sequins and three dimensional detailing but one of the biggest fabrics was velvet. As seen on the Roksanda catwalk, velvet is set to become a part of next season’s androgynous tailoring (blazers and suits) teamed flawlessly with dark plum lipstick and slicked back hair.
For this trend, there’s no other frame more suited than a simple, luxurious geek chic frame. Opt for a sophisticated take on nerd chic glasses, like these Dolce & Gabbana DG3220 specs with opulent gold detailing.
2. Sequins and Embellishments

AW wouldn’t be AW without a thought for Christmas now would it? As ever, there’s application of sequins on the catwalk for Autumn/Winter, but this season it has a lot of prominence as there’s an increased focus on three dimensional fabric design, frills and trims, plenty of embellishments, and even use of 3D materials in makeup.
There was plenty of sparkle and intricate embroidery seen on the Alexander Mcqueen runway – and something so spectacular simply has to be matched with spectacular glasses! These William Morris ETERNAL glitter glasses are just perfect…
3. Oversized Sports Luxe

Sports luxe always has a place in fashion and will always have a place in our hearts. It’s the modern day answer to practical, comfortable, wearable fashion; so whoever turned sportswear into a stylish trend, we bow down to you.
If comfort is your thing, you’ll love this look. Think oversized puffer coats, tent-like tailoring, big and cosy boyfriend jumpers and oversized hoodies. The trick here is to supersize everything you know so it’s double the surface area, double the comfort and very likely, double the warmth. And with oversized coats, you’ll need some oversized glasses.
These Blue Ribbon BR5 prescription glasses feature square oversized lenses and are perfect if you’re after the retro glasses look.
4. Ruffles and Frills

There’s a wonderful deconstructive nature to a lot of the intricate design work for AW16. Knitwear, dresses and coats have been finished with ruffles, frills and three dimensional detailing but not in a contrived or uniform way.
Pieces almost look unfinished and this has been channelled by Danielle Romeril, Minki Cheng and JW Anderson. The theme is all about creating depth and texture without that feeling of completion and it’s such as striking look.
Whilst this look might seem a little ‘out there’, you can tone it down and keep it elegant by opting for muted colours and matching with a pair of neutral coloured glasses. These nude coloured glasses are THE ANGIE by Bobbi Brown and they are the perfect elegant frames to style with such eye-catching textures.
