One of the breakout stars of this year’s MTV Awards was singer Frank Ocean. Enrapturing the crowd with a low-key performance of “Thinkin’ Bout You,” MTV News wrote that there “were no frills and thrills with the performance, just Ocean’s soaring vocals and an intensity that seemed to shut out everything around him”.
Long known in the underground music scene as a member of Odd Future, he also gained respect in the music industry as a ghost writer for John Legend, Beyoncé Knowles and Justin Bieber. Releasing his debut Nostalgia, Ultra he quickly gained attention for his songs “Novacane” and “Swim Good”. NPR’s Andrew Noz said Ocean’s songwriting is “smart and subtle…setting him apart from the pack”. Ocean worked with two of the biggest names in music, Jay-Z and Kanye West, on their Watch the Throne album, crooning on “No Church In The Wild” and “Made in America”.
His first full-length album, Channel Orange, was greeted with huge fanfare and critical acclaim, leading to a wider audience including an invitation to the MTV Awards and the season opener of Saturday Night Live.
Frank Ocean’s style has caught the eye of the fashion industry, with GQ giving him accolades for his “modern bohemian style”. Often wearing his signature bandana, Ocean has often been seen accessorizing with a variety of glasses styles and shapes. Below are a few of our favorite frame picks.
